In step 3 on page 74, press ,_. to select the recording pattern. Each time you press l_,
the indication changes as shown below. Press *_ to change the indication in reverse
order.

To use the VCR after setting the timer
To use the VCR before timer recording begins,just press I/Q). The _) indicator
disappears from the display window and the VCR switches on. Remember to press
I/Q) to reset the VCR to the timer recording standby mode after using the VCR.
You can also do the following tasks while the VCR is recording:
• Reset the counter (page 60).
• Display tape information on the TV screen (page 63).
• Check the timer settings (page 80).
• Watch another TV program (page 64).

• To set the channel, you can also use the CH+i or number buttons. O
• To set the tape speed, you can also use the SP/EP button. •
• When you are recording a program in the SP mode and the remaining tape becomes shol_er
than the recording time, the tape speed is automatically changed to the El mode. Note that
O
some noise will appear on the picture when the tape speed is changed. If you want to keep
the tape speed, set AUTO TAPE SPEED to DFF in the ADVAN(" ED OI lIONS mmm (page
92).
• To check, change or cancel the program setting, see "( becking/changing/canceling timer
settings" (page 80).
If you want to return to the prex ious menu and co_tinue with other operations after setting the
timer, press ,_, to lfighIigbt RE I'URN, then press OK.
The display returns to the MENU screen.
If you are finished using the VCR, turn olPthe power before timer recording starts.
Notes
• If you are using a ('able Mouse, you cannot select "LI" or "L2." (SLV-NgI only)
• The station ID appears on the 1V screen only when you complete Smart ("hannel Mapping
and the V('R receives the program intbnnation signal (SLV-N81 only) (see page 49).
