Operationand EquipmentSafety
DANGER
Thissnowthrower i s onlyassafeas theoperator. If it is
misused, or notproperly maintained, it canbe dangerous.
]Remember youareresponsible for yoursafety andthat of
those around you.
* Keeptheareaof operation clearof all persons, p articularly smallchildren
andpets.
. Thoroughlyinspectthe area wherethe snowthrower will be usedandremove
all doormats, s leds,boards, w ires,andotherforeignobjects.
. Do not operate thesnowthrower withoutwearing adequate winterclothing.
. Wearfootwear thatwill improvefooting on slipperysurfaces.
. Usecautionto avoid slipping or falling especially whenoperating the
snowthrowerin reverse.
*, Neveroperate the snowthrower withoutgoodvisibility or light.Alwaysbe
sureof yourfooting,andkeepafirm hold on the handles.
. Do notclearsnowacrossthe faceof slopes.Useextreme cautionwhen
changingdirectionon slopes.Donot attempt t o clearsteepslopes.
. Do not overload the machine capacitybyattemptingto clearsnowtoo
quickly.
. Neveroperate the snowthrower at high transport s peedson slippery
surfaces. L ookbehindthe snowthrowerandusecarewhen operatingin
reverse.
o Do not usethesnowthroweron surfaces abovegroundlevelsuchas roofsof
residences, g arages, p orches, o r othersuch structures or buildings.
* Operators shouldevaluate theirabilityto operate the snowthrowersafely
enoughto protectthemselves a ndothersfrom injury.
. Thesnowthroweris intended to remove snowonly. Donot usethe snow
throwerforany otherpurpose.
. Do notcarrypassengers.
*, Afterstrikinga foreignobject,shut OFFthe engine,disconnect t he cordon
electricmotors,thoroughlyinspectthesnowthrowerfor anydamage, a nd
repairthe damage beforerestarting andoperating the snowthrower.
*, If the snowthrower vibratesabnormally, s hutOFFtheengine.Vibrationis
generallyawarningof trouble.Seeanauthorized dealerif necessary f or
repairs.
. For modelsequipped withelectricstartingmotors,disconnect t he power
cordafterthe enginestarts.
Fuel Handling
DANGER
Fuelandits vaporsareextremely flammable andexplosive,
Alwayshandlefuel withextreme care.
Failureto observethesesafetyinstructionscancausea fire
Ior explosion whichwill resultin severeburnsor death.
WHENADDINGFUEL
* Turnoff engineandletcool at least2 minutesbeforeremoving the fuel
cap andaddingfuel.
o Fill fueltank outdoorsor in awell ventilated area.
o Donot overfillthe fuel tank.Toallowfor the expansion of gasoline,do notfill
abovethe bottomof the fuel tankneck.
o Keep fuel awayfromsparks,openflames,pilot lights, heat, a ndother
ignitionsources.
o Check fuel lines,cap,andfittings frequently for cracksor leaks.Replace if
necessary.
o Useanapprovedfuelcontainer.
o If fuelspills, wait until it evaporates b efore startingengine.
WHENSTARTING ENGINE
*, Ensure thatsparkplug, muffler, f uelcap, andair cleaner ( if equipped) a re in
placeandsecured.
. Donot crankthe enginewiththe sparkplug removed.
. If fuel is spilled,do not attempt t o starttheengine,but movethe snow
throwerawayfrom theareaof thespill, andavoidcreatinganysourceof
ignition,until the fuelvaporshavedissipated.
*, Donot over-prime the engine.Followthe enginestartinginstructionsin this
manual.
. If theenginefloods,setchoke(if equipped)to OPEN/RUN position,move
throttle(if equipped)to FAST positionandcrankuntil enginestarts.
WHENOPERATING EQUIPMENT
* Donot tip the snowthrowerat ananglewhichcausesthe fuelto spill.
o Donot chokethecarburetor t o stopthe engine.
o Neverrunthe enginewiththe air cleanerassembly (if equipped)or the air
filter (if equipped)removed.
WHENCHANGING OiL
* If you drainthe oil from the top oil fill tube,the fuel tankmustbeemptyor
fuel can leakout andresultin afire or explosion.
I WHEN TRANSPORTING
EQUIPMENT
