The red ON/OFF(CHG)indicator flashes rapidly (_ oneflash at 0.5-second
intervals).
- Charging has stopped becausethe compact power adapter or the battery pack is faulty. Con-
sult a CanonService Center.
Thered ON/OFF(CHG)indicatorflashes very slowly (L-:_:- _÷:- j one flash at 2-
second intervals).
- The temperature of the battery pack is outside the charging range, if the battery pack's tem-
perature is below 0 °C(32 °F),warm it before charging it;if it is above 40 °C (104 °F), let the
battery pack cool down before charging it.
- Chargethe battery pack in temperatures between0 °Cand 40 °C (32 °F and 104 °F).
- The battery pack isdamaged. Usea different battery pack.
Pictureand Sound
Thescreen appears too dark.
- The LCDscreen was dimmed. Hold [DIS_ pressed down for 2 seconds to restorethe LCD
screen to its normal brightness (_ 32).
Screen displays turn on and off repeatedly.
- The battery pack isexhausted. Replaceor charge the battery pack(Eli 27).
- Remove the battery packand reattach it correctly.
Abnormal characters appear on the screen and the camcorder does not operate properly.
- Disconnectthe power source and reconnect it after a short time. If the problem still persists,
disconnect the power source and pressthe RESETbutton with a pointed item. Pressing the
RESETbutton resets all settings.
Video noise appears on screen.
- Keep a distance between the camcorder and devices that emit strong electromagnetic fields
(plasma TVs, cellular phones, etc.).
Horizontal bands appear on the screen.
- This is a phenomenon typical of CMOSimage sensors when recording under some types of
fluorescent, mercury or sodium lamps. Toreduce the symptoms, set the recording program to
[Programmed AE]or [Shutter-PriorityAE] (Eli 63). This is not a malfunction.
Sound is distorted or is recorded at lower levels.
- Whenrecording near loud sounds (suchas fireworks, shows or concerts), sound may become
distorted or it may not be recordedat the actual levels. Activate the microphone attenuator
(E_] 139) or adjust the audio recording level manually (_] 78).
The picture is displayed correctly but there is no sound from the built-in speaker.
- Speaker volume isturned off. Adjustthe volume (_ 50).
- If the STV-250NStereoVideo Cableis connectedto the camcorder,disconnect it.
- The AV terminal isset to headphoneoutput. Set [AV/Headphones] t o [AV] (Eli 141).
