In brief
Exhaust gases are poisonous
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide,
which is extremely poisonous but is
odourless and colourless.
Therefore never inhale exhaust gases, and
never run the engine in an enclosed space.
Avoid driving with an open load
compartment. Otherwise, exhaust gases
could penetrate the interior.
Before starting-off, check:
z Tyre pressure and tyre condition -
see pages 134, 205.
z Engine oil level and fluid levels in engine
compartment – see pages 181 to 188.
z All windows, mirrors, exterior lighting
and number plates are free from dirt,
snow and ice and are operational.
z No objects are placed in front of the rear
window, on the instrument panel or in
the area in which the airbags inflate.
z Seats, seat belts and mirrors are
correctly adjusted.
z Brake operation.
To start the engine:
Depress clutch and brake pedals,
Easytronic
in N,
3
do not accelerate,
petrol engine: key to position 3;
diesel engine: key to position 2,
when control indicator

goes out
, turn key to position 3;
release key once engine is
running
To repeat the start procedure or switch off
the engine, turn the key back to position 0.
To switch on the ignition, turn the key
to position 2.
