The upgrade process begins and the Initializing firmware code load page opens (see
This page is displayed until the upgrade is complete and the controllers restart. During this interval
both controllers resynchronize and begin operating on the new controller software. Once the
resynchronization is complete, the controllers begin processing host I/Os.

Next, additional code within the storage system is updated, which can take up to 10 minutes to
complete. This includes firmware on the I/O modules in the disk enclosures. During this interval,
the Storage System Updating Firmware window opens (see
Figure 17 Storage system updating software

IMPORTANT:
If you are doing an offline upgrade, the I/O modules must be reset after being upgraded.
Allow 30 minutes for the I/O module firmware upgrade to complete. Then, continue with
step 10. If you are doing an online upgrade, continue with step 12.
If you are doing an online upgrade, allow up to 20 minutes for the I/O modules to stabilize
device port operations. If there are any issues, see
module" on page 59 for more information.

This step only applies for an offline upgrade. After 30 minutes, you must complete a power-off
reset of the storage system including all disk enclosures. You can either issue a power off from
HP Command View EVA or from the controller as follows:
a.
On the EVA4400, push and hold the enclosure power button on the rear of the controller
for a minimum of 4 seconds. The power button and the green LED start to blink when held
from 4 to 10 seconds.
On the EVA4400, while the power LED is blinking, release the power button. The button
continues to blink and the shutdown process completes.
If the EVA4400 does not perform a controlled shutdown, press and hold the power button
for 15 seconds. The power button turns amber when the array has shut down.
b.
On the EVA6400/8400, press and release the power button at the rear of the controller.
The power LED turns amber and the shut down process is complete.
c.
Press the power button on a disk enclosure and wait for it to shut down. Repeat this step for
each disk enclosure.
