Introduction

This chapter covers the connection of infrared (IR) receivers and transmitters to
the Smart Media Console (SMC)� The connections must be made before turning
the SMC unit on so that the devices can be detected properly upon startup�

IR Transmitters

Your SMC includes two IR transmitter outputs for controlling up to two set-top
boxes� If you connect a digital cable or satellite set-top box to the SMC, you
must also use the IR transmitter control cable to relay remote control commands
through the SMC to the cable or satellite set-top box's IR receiver�

Installing IR Transmitters

Note: Make sure to connect all IR receivers and transmitters before turning the
SMC unit on so that these devices can be detected properly upon startup�
For a cable TV receiver, satellite receiver, or other set-top box, install the IR
transmitter as follows:
1�
Plug the IR transmitter cable into the IR Transmitter output port
2 on the rear of the SMC�

Route the cable to the cable or satellite receiver set-top box�
