System Recovery
17
Introduction
This chapter covers the System Recovery procedure using the System Recovery
DVD supplied with your Smart Media Console (SMC)
Note: System Recovery restores the system hard drive partition (including
the operating system and related programs) but does not restore digital
entertainment content The SMC users should back up important content
regularly to help avoid data loss from a virus attack or hard drive failure
After completing the System Recovery Wizard, you will need to perform a User
Account setup for Vista and then a Media Center setup (including CableCARD™
setup, if equipped) If you are using Life|ware, you will also need to reinstall
Life|ware and activate your Life|ware license The procedure on the following
page lists the items/information you will need to do a full system recovery
When to Use System Recovery
Use this System Recovery procedure only in the event of a system (c:) drive
failure or when you are having the following types of problems with your SMC
software and performing a Windows System Restore from an earlier restore point
does not correct the problem:
•
"Blue Screen" error screen appears during regular operation, forcing
repeated reboots of the operating system
•
Invalid Boot Media or other boot failure messages when booting the system
•
Vista Operating System hangs while booting up
•
You suspect corrupted system fi les due to viruses or power surges
•
Media Center hangs, displays system errors or exceptions, or will not launch
