Smart Media Console Installation Manual
Mounting and Ventilation
The SMC can be installed as a set-top box or mounted in either a standard EIA/
TIA 19" rack In both instances, at least four (4) inches of clearance in the front
and rear of the unit must be provided for proper air circulation (see Important
Safety Information in Ch1)
Rack Mounting in Equipment Rack or Closet
The unit can be rack mounted in any standard AV rack Mounting instructions
accompany the rack ears, which can be purchased separately Proper spacing
and ventilation as noted above should be maintained
Shelf Mounting in Equipment Rack/Closet/Entertainment Center
Place the SMC on a shelf or horizontal surface and ensure adequate clearance
at the front and back for proper ventilation Ensure clear access to the rear panel
for cabling and power connections
Environmental Conditions
The SMC can be safely operated in environments that conform to these
requirements:
•
Operating Room Temperature – 45 °F (7°C) to 75°F (24°C)
•
Humidity – 10% to 90% (non-condensing)
Remote Control Considerations
When rack mounting (or "remoting") an SMC, you must take use of the remote
into consideration Multiple options for remote functionality include, but are not
limited to:
•
Running an IR control cable from the SMC to an IR receiver in the room with
the component being used (refer to Ch 10 Connecting IR Devices)
•
Using an RF remote (assuming the RF receiver is within the supported
range)
•
Using a WiFi, Z-wave, ZigBee, or other wireless, programmable remote
•
Using an IR/Ethernet device such as a Global Cache GC-100 or Life|link
More details on selecting the best solution for a remoted Media Center are
provided during Life|ware certification training.
