BASIC OPERATIONS
5. Press the REC PAUSE button ( @ #8).
®@ The recording indicator lights.
@ The direction indicator flashes.
@ When the APSC function is operated, recording is
performed while automatically setting the optimum
recording level.
6. Press the appropriate play button {Por <4).
The receiver display section will function to show the
elapsed recording time.

Next, begin playback of the component selected
for recording in step 4.
7. To stop recording, press the stop button (@)}.

The
function
selector
will
not
operate
during
recording,
®@ This unit's recording level has been previously set,
but the APSC (Auto Peak Search Control) is provid-
ed to allow even better recording results.
Auto reverse function
This unit uses rotary type recording and playback heads,
and the same heads are used in both forward and reverse
directions,
Tape-end detection is employed to activate auto reverse
operation which takes approx. 2 second after the tape
is taken up,
NOTE;
A leader tape with a length equivalent to approx. 5 sec-
onds is attached to an ordinary cassette tape. This means
that for two-way travel of the leader tape there will be
& break of approx.
11 seconds in the sound. Be very care-
ful of this, particularly when making a two-way recording.
AUTOMATIC TAPE SELECTOR FUNCTION
This unit (Deck | and Deck Il) is equipped with an auto-
matic tape selector function which utilizes the sensor
holes on the tape cassette to determine the type of tape
{TYPE |, Il, 1) being used, in order to set the deck to
match the tape recording bias and equalization.
Pausing and restarting recording
1, Press the REC PAUSE button (@ il).
®
Recording will be suspended.
2. To restart
recording,
press the play button
whose indicator is flashing (P or 4).
About the Counter Settings
® During recording, if the COUNTER/TIME
button is
pressed to switch to the time counter
display, the
deck's display will change to show the elapsed record-
ing time.

If the RESET button is pressed when the display is set
to
the
tape
counter,
the
display
will
change
to

Recording muting
When recording, this can be used to create a blank no-
signal area between tracks.
Keep the MUTE button ( © } of the remote control unit
pressed during recording for the length of the blank space

if the MUTE button is pressed once during recording, a
silent interval of about 4 seconds duration is recorded,
after which the deck is set automatically to the record-
ing standby mode.
NOTE:
®
The MUTE button does not operate in high-speed tape
copy mode.
® /f you press the MUTE button while recording is tak-
ing place, 2 nonrecorded portion will be created. Be
careful, therefore, not to press the button other than
when necessary.
® Recording at the desired sound field
@
Use the sound field processor to create the desired
sound field. Recording is possible after the field is
set. After the desired sound is created perform the
recording
operation.
When
recording
in the
DO MODE (PRO LOGIC NORMAL and 3CH LOGIC),
the center is not recorded and the vocal and other
effects
are lost during
playback.
This type
of
recording is not recommended
for this reason.
@ Even if the SUPER P, BASS is set ON, sound can
be recorded in the OFF condition.
@
When
replaying a recorded
tape in the desired
sound field, use the EFFECT/DIRECT button of the
sound fieid processor to set the effect OFF.
®
Distortion may occur in sections of recording due
to the strength of the source and sound field ef-
fects. Reduce the strength of the effect before
recording if this occurs.

@ This function automatically sets the recording level to
match the peak level of the source to be recorded.
@
The recording level has been previously set even if you
do not use this function; use of the APSC allows even
higherquality recordings to be produced.
Before beginning recording, press the APSC but-
ton: The APSC indicator will light.
Begin recording after confirming the APSC indicator is
fighted. In this way, the optimum recording level will be
set automatically during recording, in accordance
with
the source selected.
NOTE:
©
To cancel the APSC function, press the APSC
button
once more and confirm that its indicator goes out. {The
function cannot be turned on or off during recording.)
@
The APSC
function
cannot
be used during timer
recording.
@
The APSC function turns off automatically when the
tape-copy or A.S.E.S.
functions are initiated.
