put the unit in an upright position, and secure it
firmly.Failure to do so could result in damage or
injury.
Never attempt to operate the product with one hand.
Ensure that you hook your thumbs around the grips,
wrapping them in your thumb and remaining fingers.
Kickback
Kickback can lead to dangerous loss of control
of the product and result in serious injury to the
operator or any one standing close by. Hold the
product firmly with both hands with thumbs and
fingers encircling the front and rear handles. Be
aware of the down and outward path the pruner
will take after the cut is made.
Kickback may occur when the moving saw chain
at the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an
object, or when the wood closes in and pinches
the saw chain in the cut. In some cases this may
cause a lightning-fast reverse action, kicking the
guide bar and saw chain up and back or down
and back towards the operator. Either of these
reactions may cause the operator to lose control
of the product which could result in serious
personal injury.
With a basic understanding of kickback, you
can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise
which contributes to accidents.
Avoid contact of the guide bar tip with any object
while the saw chain is moving.
Cut only wood. Avoid striking concrete, metal,
wire, or other obstructions which could cause
kickback or damage to the saw chain.
If the saw chain does strike a foreign object,
immediately switch off the unit and remove
the battery, inspect and repair the product if
necessary.
When you first use this product under low temperature
after purchase, it may not operate smoothly in rare
instances. This phenomenon does not indicate a
product failure. In this case, condition the unit to room
temperature (normal temperature), and turn on and off
power to the unit repeatedly before use.
Check that the cutting attachment, guide bar, and
saw chain is firmly attached and in safe operating
condition.
Do not hit rocks, stones, tree stumps, and other
foreign objects with the saw chain.
Do not cut into the ground with the saw chain.
If cutting attachment end strikes an obstruction,
stop the unit immediately and inspect saw chain for
damage.
Do not operate with a dull, fractured, or discolored
saw chain.

PRUNING TECHNIQUES

Figure 9-11.
Preparations
Check unit for loose/missing nuts, bolts and screws.
Tighten and/or replace as needed.
Choose the best work position for safety against the
falling object (Branch etc).
Start the unit.
Put on the strap.
Never stand underneath the branch you are cutting–be
wary of falling branches. Note that a branch may spring
back at you after it hits the ground.
Cutting Sequence
To allow branches a free fall always cut the
lower branches first. Prune heavy branches (large
diameter) in several controllable pieces.
Working Position
Hold the control handle with your right hand, and
the shaft with your left hand. Your left arm should
be extended to the most comfortable position. The
shaft should always be held at an angle of 60° or
less.
Typical applications
Standard cut(A):The most convenient working position
is a tool angel of 60°, but any other angle may be used
to suit the situation concerned.
Cutting above obstacles(B):Thanks to the unit's
long reach it is possible to prune branches that are
overhanging obstacles, such as rivers or lakes. The
tool angle in this case depends on the position of the
branch.
Cutting on a work platform(C):The unit's long reach
enables cutting to be performed next to the trunk
without the risk of the work platform damaging other
branches. The tool angle in this case depends on the
position of the branch.
Working techniques
Relieving cut:To avoid tearing the bark, kickback or
pinching the bar when pruning thick branches, always
start by performing a relieving cut (D) on the underside
of the branch. To do this, apply the cutting attachment
and pull it across the bottom of the branch as far as the
bar nose. Perform the cross-cut (E).
Flush-cutting thick branches:If branch diameter is
more than 10 cm, first perform undercut (F) and cross-
cut at a distance (G) of about 25cm from the final cut.
