Overview

The HKDV-503 connects to the HDW-500 HD (high
definition) Digital VTR and controls the HD/NTSC
output video signals and the image enhancer of the
down-converter built into the VTR.
It can also be used as a remote controller for the
HKPF-525 HD-NTSC Down-Converter Board and
HKPF-1125 525-HD Up-Converter Board fitted to the
PFV series.
The following are the principal features of this product.
Video output adjustments for both HDTV
and NTSC
Both outputs (HDVS 1125-line and NTSC 525-line) of
the HD Digital VTR HDW-500 and the HD output of
the 525-HD Up-Converter Board HKPF-1125 can be
adjusted.
The parameters which can be adjusted for each output
are as follows:
HD: Y (luminance) level, P
levels, master level, setup level, sync phase
D1: Y level, B-Y/R-Y levels, master level, sync
phase, cross color
D2: video level, chrominance level, setup level, sync
phase, hue, cross color
Down/Up-conversion mode selection
The following three modes can be selected for the HD-
NTSC down-conversion and NTSC-HD up-conversion
mode:
• CROP mode (the sides of the HDTV image are lost)
• LETTER BOX mode (the HDTV image appears in a
slot with its aspect ratio unchanged at 16:9)
• SQUEEZE mode (the HDTV image is compressed
horizontally)
Down/Up-converter image enhancer
adjustment
This adjusts the image enhancer built into the down/
up-converter. The following items can be adjusted:
H CROP•V LETTER: horizontal position for
cropping in the edge crop mode with a down-
converter, and horizontal position of the HDTV
image in the edge crop mode and vertical position
for cropping in the letter box mode with an up-
converter

DETAIL GAIN: sharpness of edge enhancement
LIMITER: maximum limit to detail added to
enhance original signal
CRISP: amplitude setting for not enhancing small-
amplitude signals
DEPEND: luminance range for edge enhancement
FREQUENCY: center frequency for edge
enhancement
H/V RATIO: ratio of horizontal and vertical edge
enhancement settings
GAMMA: gradient of gamma correction curve
RS-422 remote control
You can use an optional digital video controller cable
(D-sub 15-pin/9-pin: RCC-1502H/1505H/1510H/
1530H) for direct connection to control the HDW-500,
the HKPF-525 and the HKPF-1125.
Memory function for adjustments and
settings
Up to 99 sets of settings can be saved in memory and
recalled as needed. Each set consists of the settings for
each output signal and the system settings.
Display function for adjustments and
settings
If DIP switch 2 on the internal board is set to the ON
position, you can display the setting value for each
adjustment in the MEMORY ADDR. indicator in the
memory section.
