System requirements

You must have a supported Web browser installed on your remote workstation to
communicate with the xSeries Hosting Appliance through the Appliance System
Manager. The supported browsers are Microsoft
Communicator 4.6 or 6.2.
The IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility agent is pre installed on the
xSeries Hosting Appliance. You can use the Advanced Appliance Configuration
Utility to manage one or more xSeries Hosting Appliances. You must install the
Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility console from the Product Supplementary
CD on the remote workstation you are using to manage the xSeries Hosting
Appliance.

Software on the xSeries Hosting Appliance

The following software is installed on the IBM Eserver xSeries Hosting Appliance
v1.0. You might need to install additional components to use all of the software
features.
v Red Hat Linux version 7.1
v IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility
v Sphera HostingDirector for IBM Appliances, version 1.0
v IBM Director version 3.1
Utility must be on the same physical subnet as the xSeries Hosting
Appliance.
Red Hat Linux version 7.1 (kernel 2.4.9) is the pre installed operating system.
The Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility agent is pre installed on your
xSeries Hosting Appliance. You must install the Advanced Appliance
Configuration Utility console from the Product Supplementary CD on a remote
workstation that is on the same physical subnet as your xSeries Hosting
Appliance. The utility detects IBM Eserver xSeries Hosting Appliances on the
network, and enables you to set up and manage the network configuration for
one or multiple xSeries Hosting Appliances. The IBM Advanced Appliance
Utility provides the following:
– Automatic discovery of xSeries Hosting Appliances
– Point-to-point management
– Installation and management of multiple xSeries Hosting Appliances
– Automatic assignment of static IP addresses from a specified range to newly
installed xSeries Hosting Appliances
– The capability to remotely initiate a factory image restoration
HostingDirector is the management platform for hosting multiple virtual servers
on an appliance; it is pre installed on your xSeries Hosting Appliance.
HostingDirector provides the following:
– Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) technology can provide up to 1000 virtual
servers on a single appliance
– Software provisioning across virtual servers
– Reporting capability
– Security
IBM Director, a comprehensive workgroup hardware manager, gives you the
tools you need to centrally mange xSeries servers, IBM NetVista desktops,
®
Internet Explorer 5.x, or Netscape
