Disc has been inserted upside down.
Disc is dirty.
Disc has scratches.

Load discs with label side (printed surface)
upwards.
Clean the disc.
Replace the disc.
Press the CD function button.
Tuner
Can't listen to broadcasts, or
sound is distorted.
Antenna isn't connected.
Antenna direction or position is poor.
An electrical appliance (fluorescent lamp, hair
dryer, etc.) is being used in the near vicinity.
The frequency interval is incorrectly set.
Connect the antenna properly,
Discontinue use of the appliance producing
the noise, or move it farther away from the
antenna.
Change the frequency step (e P18).
Broadcast is in stereo, but
sound from speakers is
monaural.
Monaural indicator is lit in the display.
Press the MONO button so that the "MONO"
indicator disappears. (r® P. 18).
Tape
Deck

Deck

Cassette tray doesn't open.
Electric power cord has been disconnected
during tape travel.
Reconnect the power cord.
Can't record
Erasure-prevention tabs are broken out from
the tape cassette.
Either replace the tape, or place cellophane
tape over the erasure-prevention tabs (re P.
13).
Sound is muddy or distorted.
When recording over a previously
recorded tape, the previous
recording can still be heard.
Heads are dirty.
Clean the heads ( P. 13},
Playback sound is muddy or
distorted; high frequency
sounds are excessively empha-
sized.
The Dolby NR setting is not the same as that
used during recording.
Set the Dolby NR system to the same setting
as that used during recording (s* P. 30).
Sounds recorded from LINE 1
are distorted.
LINE 17 input level is too high.
Set LINE 1 input level to ATT ON (c P. 32),
Sounds recorded from LINE 1
are too faint.
LINE 1 input Jevel is set to ATT ON.
Set LINE 1 input level to ATT OFF (e P. 32).
