Important : Read Before Recording on MiniDiscs (CD MD Tuner only)
NOTES:
Recording is not possible under the following conditions:
@
When using a playback-only MD (commercially available pre-
recorded MiniDiscs).
@
When your MiniDisc is already full, and has no more remain-
ing recording time.
@
When an error occurs in the TOC.
Take care not to disconnect the power cord, interrupt power, | :~
or subject the recorder to external impact while the TOC is
being recorded (while "TOC WRITING" indicator flashes). If
:
r
care is not taken, the TOC.may be recorded incorrectly, mak-
.
-
~
ing it impossible to play back the disc correctly.
System restrictions involving MiniDiscs
The MiniDise recording format differs from previous recording formats on cassette tapes and DAT. As a result, the following kinds of
symptoms may appear, depending on the kind of recording or editing being performed. These are restrictions inherent in the system itself,
and are not malfunctions.

System Restriction
*TOC
FULL"
is displayed, even
though the MD has remaining re-
cording time available.
The MD's TOC area records the disc divisions availabie for recording. When a disc is subjected to
repeated recording and erasing, or repeated editing, the number of tracks recorded in the TOC
may_eventually reach the system limit of 255, even though not that many tracks are actually
recorded on the disc. When the TOC's system limit is reached, no more recording can be per
formed on the disc, even though space may be physically available.
(in this case, the TOC can be restored to its initial status by using ine all-track erase function to
delete all tracks on the disc).

"DISC FULL" is displayed, even
though the MD has remaining re-
cording time available.
me
Even though several very short
tracks are erased, the available re-
cording time does not increase.
If a disc is scratched or has other surface damage, that portion of the disc will be automatically
marked and locked out, reducing the available recording time by that amount.
|
When the remaining recording time is displayed, tracks with fess than twelve seconds of record-
ing time are sometimes not counted as tracks.
The total of the time actually re-
corded onthe MD and the remain-
ing recording time does not equal
the disc's maximum
recording
time.
Normally, the smaliest unit of the disc counted is a single "cluster" (about 2 seconds of recording
time). As a result, even when a track includes a fraction of a cluster, a whole cluster must be
counted in the recording time. As a result, the remaining time actually available for recording
may be less than that shown in the time-remaining display. Also, if a disc is scratched ot has
other surface damage, that portion of the disc wili be automatically marked and locked out,
reducing the available recording time by that amount. (in this case, the DEFECT indicator will
appear in the display during recording, and the track number will be incremented automatically.)
When editing, it is sometimes im-
possible to link two tracks.
When an MD has been subjected to repeated recording and editing, it may become impossible
to use the "combine" function. Also, tracks recorded from digita! inputs (CDs, other MDs, etc.)
cannot be linked to tracks recorded from analog sources.
When performing fast-forward or
fast-reverse
through
recorded
tracks, the sound is sometimes in-
terrupted.
.When an MD has been subjected to repeated recording and editing, the sound may be inter-
rupted during use of the fast-forward or fast-reverse functions.
