themeasurement andcalibration p rocess, youmay
observe theprogress ofthe testingbyreading the
messages t hatappear i nthe second lineof the menu
listing. W hen the EzSet+ screenfirstappears, it con-
tains a series of dashes, b utasthe testandmeasure
mentproceeds, youwill seethe following messages
asthe individual measurements aretaken:
• SystemLevel:A SETTING
VOLUME
message willappear t o indicate thatthe system is
selting the oveTall volume level t o theproperlevel
asa prelude to testingtheindividual channels.
During thistest.youwill seea message inthe last
lineof the menuscreen change asthevolumelevel
isadjusted.
• SpeakerCheck:Thesystem willcirculate a test
signal t o determine whichchannels havea speaker
connected. Duringthistest.you willseethe name
of eachchannel p osition displayed w hilea signal i s
sentto thatspeaker.
NOTE: W hilethistestdetects whether a speaker i s
connected t o a particular output,it cannot d etermine
whether t he speaker i s inthe correct p osition. ( For
example, it cantellwhether a speaker i s connected
to theSurround Rightoutput, b utit cannot t ell
whether t he speaker i s on therightor leftsideof
yourlistening morn.)Forthatreason, we strongly
recommend t hatyoutry to listen asthe tonecircu-
lates, m atching the nameshownforeachchannel to
the location ofthe speakeL If a toneis heardfroma
speaker p osition thatdoesnot match the on screen
message, stopEzSet+. e xitthe menus, turnyour
receiver o ff andcheckfor properspeaker c onnec
tionson the rearpanel b eforeresuming t he setup.
Whenthistestis complete. Y ES willbe shown to
the rightof SP EA KE R CH EC K on the menu
screen.
• SpeakerDelay:Thistestwill circulate t he tones
againasthe nameof eachchannel is shown to
measure the distance f romthe microphone t o each
speaker. Theresults of thesetestswillbe usedto
setthe delay timesettings for eachactivespeaker
position. Whenthistestiscomplete, a speakepto
microphone ( listening p osition) d istance willbe
shown to the rightof S PE AKE R DE L A Y
lineon the menuscreen.
• SpeakerLevel:Thistestcirculates a testsignal
andmeasures t he outputfromeachactive speaker
position. Theresults of themeasurements areused
to adjust t he individual channel outputs asneeded,
sothattheyareidentical. Thisis an esaential ele
mentof ensuring thatsurround sound fieldsare
properly reproduced. Ifdesired, y oumayusethe
results of the automated t estingasa baseline a nd
thenmakemanual a djustments to trimthe output
levelstoyourpersonal taste, f ollowing the instruc
tionsshownon page25 or 33. Whenthistestis
complete, an outputlevel a djustment number w ill be
shown to the rightof S PE AKE R L E VE L line
on themenuscreen.
• SpeakerSize:Themeasurements andcalculations
forthistesttakeplaceat the sametimeasthe test
signals arecirculated to calculate theoutputlevels,
andtheyareusedto determine w hether t he speakers
inyoursystem are"large"or "small" f or thepurpos
esof bassmanagement. (Ifdesired, y oumayuse
the results of theautomated t estingasa baseline
andthenmakemanual a djuslments t o the speaker
sizeseltings on a sourceindependent basis, f ollow
ingthe instluctions s hownon page24.) When this
testis complete, anoutputlevel a djustment number
willbe shown to therightof the SP EA KE R
SI Z E lineon the menuscreen.
• SpeakerCrossover: T hemeasurements andcal-
culations f orthistesttakeplaceatthe sametimeas
thetestsignalis circulated t o calculate the levels,
andtheyareusedto determine the crossover set-
tingforeachspeaker i nyoursystem to create a
seamless t ransition between thefrequencies s entto
yourmainspeakers a ndsubwoofer ( ifavailable). If
desired, y oumayusethe resultsofthe automated
testing asa baseline a ndthenmakemanual adjust
ments to the cmsaover seltings on a sourceinde
pendent b asis, f oJlowing the instructions s hown on
page24. Whenthistest iscomplete, a crossover
frequency w ill be shown to the rightof the
SPEAKER

screen.

Unplug the microphone a ndstoreit ina safeplaceso
thatit is available t o recalibrate yoursystem if needed
dueto a change inspeakers, preferred ]istaning posi-
tion,or a majorchange inthe room's furnishings ( such
asthe addition ofthickcarpeting o r plushfurniture)
thatmight r equkedifferent s eltings. Toenterthe set-
tingsto the receiver's m emory andreturn to the
