Troubleshooting

Problem
The starter does not crank.
The engine does not start, starts hard, or
fails to keep running.
The engine loses power.
The engine overheats.
The machine does not drive.
Possible Cause
1. The blade-control switch (PTO) is
engaged.
2. The parking brake is not engaged.
3. The drive levers are not in the
-
position.
NEUTRAL
LOCK
4. The operator is not seated.
5. The battery is dead.
6. The electrical connections are
corroded or loose.
7. The fuse is blown.
8. The relay or switch is broken.
1. The fuel tank is empty.
2. The oil level in the crankcase is low.
3. The throttle is not in the correct
position.
4. There is dirt in fuel filter.
5. There is dirt, water, or stale fuel is in
the fuel system.
6. The air cleaner is dirty.
7. The seat switch is not functioning
properly.
8. The electrical connections are
corroded, loose or faulty.
9. The relay or switch is broken.
1. The engine load is excessive.
2. The air cleaner is dirty.
3. The oil level in the crankcase is low.
4. The cooling fins and air passages

Corrective Action
1. Move the blade-control switch (PTO)
to disengaged.
2. Engage the parking brake.
3. Ensure that the drive levers are in the
N
-
position.

4. Sit on the seat.
5. Charge the battery.
6. Check the electrical connections for
good contact.
7. Replace the fuse.
8. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
1. Fill the fuel tank.
2. Add oil to the crankcase.
3. Be sure that the throttle control is
midway between the S
LOW
positions.
4. Replace the fuel filter.
5. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
6. Clean or replace the air-cleaner
element.
7. Check the seat switch indicator.
Replace the seat if needed.
8. Check the electrical connections for
good contact. Clean the connector
terminals thoroughly with electrical
contact cleaner, apply dielectric
grease, and connect.
9. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
1. Reduce the ground speed.
2. Clean the air-cleaner element.
3. Add oil to the crankcase.
4. Remove the obstruction from the
cooling fins and air passages.
5. Clean or replace the fuel cap.
6. Replace the fuel filter.
7. Contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
