NCM Module Field Checks

Network Control Module 300 Series Technical Bulletin
To field check NCM modules:
1. Cycle power to run self-diagnostics. This may clear any internal
errors.
2. If an error is indicated by the LEDs, determine whether to replace
the module. Possible errors are:
• incorrect node address for the NCM. Check the node address
set on the ARCNET card. You can also verify this by viewing
the display following the self-diagnostics. If the node number
assigned duplicates that of another device's node number
(on either the N1 or N2), a communication error occurs,
resulting in erratic (or no) communications transmitted.
Reassign a unique node number via NCSETUP.
• 50-60 Hz line frequency is not present. This is one of the
conditions checked by the sanity testing and is indicated with
an LED 6 error.
• if the power LED turns off (and there is power present at the
cable), either the LED is defective (in which case the board still
functions properly), or there is a malfunction in the power
supply section of the NCM. Turn the power supply off and
double check the connections to the power cable. For more
information on power supply troubleshooting, see Appendix B:
NCM Maintenance.
