If it does, it is considered a mantel and must meet the
mantel requirements listed in this manual.

HEARTH REQUIREMENTS

The insert must be installed on a noncombustible hearth
FP2965
extending a minimum of 10" (254 mm) from the fireplace
mantel clearance opening (local codes may require a larger hearth). The
hearth must also extend to both sides of the face.
