Available sound systems with limited speaker configurations
When only the left, center, and right front speakers
are connected
Center Speaker
Left front speaker
The following modes are available:
DOLBY 3 STEREO
The surround channel sound is output from the left and right
front speakers.
STEREO
This is the normal stereo sound. The surround mode is
canceled.
Selecting the Sound Effect
The DVD Receiver will automatically detect the sound system when DOLBY DIGITAL (
PCM DIGITAL (2 channel digital stereo) is played back. The sound system appears in the DVD Receiver's display.
Lights up when PCM DIGITAL (2 channel digital stereo) sound is reproduced.
Lights up when DOLBY DIGITAL Surround sound is reproduced.
Lights up when DTS Surround sound is reproduced.
Using Onkyo's original sound effects – DSP (Digital Signal Processor) selection
While playing back sources other than DOLBY DIGITAL and DTS Surround sounds, you can select the desired DSP mode.
Remote controller
Press SURROUND MODE on the remote controller or DVD
Receiver repeatedly until the desired DSP mode appears
SURROUND MODE
in the DVD Receiver's display.
The DSP indicator lights up when one of the DSP modes is selected.
Each press of the button changes the DSP mode as follows:
STEREO DOLBY PRO LOGIC* ORCHESTRA UNPLUGGED STUDIO-MIX TV LOGIC 5CH STEREO
* When only the left, center, and right front speakers are connected, or if the configurations of the other speakers are set to
DVD Receiver
"NONE," "3 STEREO" (DOLBY 3 STEREO) appears instead of "DOLBY PRO LOGIC" as above described.
SURROUND
When only the left and right front speakers are connected, or if the configurations of the other speakers are set to
MODE
"NONE," this selection will be skipped as above described.
Notes
• When DOLBY DIGITAL Surround sound is reproduced, you can select only "DOLBY DIGITAL" or "STEREO."
• When DTS Surround sound is reproduced, you can select only "DTS" or "STEREO."

Left front speaker
Only STEREO is available. This is a normal stereo sound.

Changing the output sound signal format
of the DVD video/VIDEO CD/audio CD
You can change the format of the sound signal
being output via the speakers and output jacks
using the menu (see page 40).
This means, for example, even if DOLBY
DIGITAL Surround sound is played by the DVD
Receiver, you can output sound to the
speakers in the 48 kHz/16 bit format, which
enables you to use the DSP sound effects
below instead of DOLBY DIGITAL Surround.
