12. TROUBLESHOOTING
Troubleshooting
The following sentences are designed to help you correct problems that are not equipment malfunctions� If you are
unable to locate the cause of a problem or solve it through the use of this troubleshooting, contact your nearest
Icom Dealer or Service Center�
The transceiver does not turn ON.
z The DC power cable is not properly connected�
→Properly reconnect the DC power cable� (p� 11-2)
z The polarity of the power connection is reversed�
→Reconnect the DC power cable observing the proper polarity� Replace the fuse, if blown� (pp� 11-2, 11-5)
z A DC power cable fuse is blown�
→Find and repair the cause of the problem, and then replace the damaged fuse with a new one� (p� 11-5)
z The power source voltage is not correct�
→Apply the correct 13�8 V DC� (p� 11-2)
No sound comes from the speaker.
z The volume level is too low�
→Rotate [VOL] clockwise to obtain a suitable listening level� See the Basic manual for details�
z The Audio Mute function is activated�
→Push any switch or key to deactivate it� See the Basic manual for details�
z The squelch is tightly closed�
→Rotate [SQL] to adjust the squelch level to the threshold point� See the Basic manual for details�
z A selective call or the Squelch function is activated, such as the Pocket Beep function or the Tone/DTCS squelch�
→Turn OFF those functions� (pp� 7-3, 7-5)
Sensitivity is low, and only strong signals are audible.
z The antenna feedline or the antenna connector solder has poor contact or is shorted�
→Check, and if necessary, replace the feedline or resolder the antenna connector� (p� 11-4)
z The S-meter Squelch or Squelch Attenuator function is activated�
→Set [SQL] to between the 10 and 12 o'clock position� See the Basic manual for details�
→Turn OFF the S-meter squelch or Squelch Attenuator function� (p� 8-6)
No direct contact is possible with other stations.
z The other station is using the tone/DTCS squelch�
→Set the appropriate Tone frequency or DTCS code, and then turn ON the Tone or DTCS squelch�
(pp� 7-2, 7-3)
z The transceiver is set to the plus or minus Duplex mode�
→Repeatedly hold down [LOW DUP] for 1 second to select the Simplex mode� See the Basic manual for details�
A repeater cannot be accessed.
z The wrong frequency offset is set�
→Correct the frequency offset. (p. 8-2)
z The wrong Repeater Tone frequency is set�
→Correct the Repeater Tone frequency� (p� 8-2)
Frequency cannot be set.
z The Lock function is activated�
→Turn OFF the function� See the Basic manual for details�
z The Priority watch is paused on the watch frequency�
→Cancel the watch� (p� 5-3)
Frequency cannot be set using the microphone.
z The Microphone Keypad Lock function is activated�
→Push [FUNC], and then [SQL▼ # 16KEY-L] to turn OFF the function. See the Basic manual for details.
z The Priority watch is paused on the watch frequency�
→Cancel the watch� (p� 5-4)
