Configuring

Synchronize device time
Note that the time of the device clock corresponds to UTC time and cannot be adjusted to
time zones. It is recommended to synchronize the time with an NTP server to obtain unique
time information. The time is reset with a device restart and must be synchronized.
5.1

Assigning the IP address / device name

To achieve ideal communication between the controller and readers, you need to assign a
unique IP address or device name to each individual reader. Depending on the infrastructure
in which you want to operate the reader, there are different procedures as explained below:
• Operate the reader as S7 user in an automation environment.
The unique assignment is based on the device name and is made using the TIA Portal
(STEP 7 Basic / Professional).
• Operate the reader as XML or OPC UA user in an IT environment.
The unique assignment is based on DHCP or the IP address and can be made using SINEC
PNI.
• Operate the reader as a Rockwell user (EtherNet/IP) in an automation environment.
The unique assignment is made with the IP address using a DHCP server.
Note
Support of option "12"
When the address is assigned via DHCP, the option "12" (hostname) is also supported. The
hostname can be taken from the SNMP variable "sysName".
The variable can be written using SNMP tools.
These alternative methods are described below.
