Properties of the reader

Area of application
The SIMATIC RF360R reader was specially designed for use in industrial production for the
control and optimization of material flow within an area with protected access. The reader is
characterized by a high data transfer rate. The reader can process transponders of the ISO
15693 and RF300 (proprietary) standards.
Compared to other readers of the SIMATIC RF300 product family - which usually have an RS-
422 interface for communication with higher-level communication modules - the RF360R has
two PROFINET IO interfaces. Due to this special feature, the reader can be operated both on
the field level via a direct connection to an S7 controller and via a PC or on the IT level. This
means diagnostic data, such as processed transponder data or log entries, can be transferred
to higher-level systems via OPC UA or XML parallel to regular operation. In addition,
PROFINET IO can be looped on to another module.

In addition to the familiar configuration types via TIA Portal and GSDML, this reader also
feature integrated Web Based Management (WBM), which enables devices to be set via a
standard browser. The WBM supports you during commissioning, diagnostics and servicing. It
also enables the reading/writing of transponder data.
For security reasons, you should only operate the device within a protected network area and
not connect it directly to the Internet.
