Positioning and clearances - outdoor unit

Required clearances
Ensure the following:
5 Good air circulation and ventilation
5 Noise from the unit will not disturb others
5 Firm and solid—location will not vibrate
5 Protected from prolonged periods of direct
sunlight or rain
5 Where snow is anticipated, raise the
unit above the base pad to prevent ice
buildup and cold damage. Mount the unit
high enough to be above the average
accumulated area snowfall.
Special considerations for extreme weather
If the unit is exposed to strong prevailing winds install the unit so that the air outlet fan is at a
90 degree angle to the direction of the wind. If needed, build a barrier in front of the unit to protect it
from extremely strong winds.
If the unit is exposed to heavy rain or snow, build a shelter above the unit. Be careful not to
obstruct air flow around the unit.

DO NOT install:
6 Near any source of combustible gas
6 In locations exposed to excessive salty air
6 In locations exposed to excessive dust
6 Near an obstacle that will block the air inlets
and outlets
6 Near animals or plants that will be harmed
by hot air discharge
6 Where it will be exposed to sea wind (salt
spray) as this will reduce durability
