REMOVING, REPLACING A N D SETTING KNIVES
If the knives are removed from the cutterhead for replacement or regrinding, care must be used
in removing, replacing and resetting them as follows:
1 . DISCONNECT T HE MACHINE FROM TH E P O W E R S O U R C E.
2 . Move the fence to the right until it is clear of the cutterhead.
3 . Loosen two screws (A) Fig. 43, and remove cutter-
head guard assembly (B). W ARNING: B E EXTREMELY
C A R E F U L T H AT Y O U R H A N D S D O N O T C O M E IN
C O N TA C T WITH TH E KNIVES.
4 . Using wrench (C) F i g . 4 4 , slightly loosen the six knife
locking screws (D) in each knife slot by turning the
screws (D) clockwise. This relieves stress in the cutter-
head.
5 . Loosen screws (D) F i g . 4 4 , f u r t h e r, and remove the
k n i f e , k n i f e l o c k i n g b a r a n d l i fter springs located under
the knives. Remove the remaining two knives in the same
manner.
6 . Before replacing the knives, make certa i n t h e k n i f e
locking bars are throughly clean and free of gum and
pitch and adjust the height of the outf e e d table to be
.030
above the cutterhead body as follows:
A . Using a straight edge (E) Fig. 45, and feeler
gages (F) that equal .030 , adjust the height of
the outf e e d table to be .030
head body (G). Then lock the outf e e d ta b l e i n
place.
