19 Winter Operation

► Turn the low speed screw (L) clockwise until
the engine speed drops – then turn it back a
1/4 turn, open the throttle and check that the
engine accelerates smoothly.

19.1
At temperatures below +10°C
Fit cover plate 4119 007 1022 (special acces‐
sory) on the starter cover. This causes heated air
to be drawn in from around the cylinder.
The cover plate comes with illustrated fitting
instructions.
Important:
To avoid engine running problems, always
remove the cover plate when the outside temper‐
ature rises above + 10°C.

20 Spark Plug

► If the engine is down on power, difficult to start
or runs poorly at idle speed, first check the
spark plug.
► Fit a new spark plug after about 100 operating
hours – or sooner if the electrodes are badly
eroded. Install only suppressed spark plugs of
the type approved by STIHL – see "Specifica‐
tions".

Removing the spark plug

► Remove the mounting screws (1) from the
shroud (2).
► Remove the shroud (2).
► Pull off the spark plug boot (3).
► Unscrew the spark plug.

Checking the Spark Plug
► Clean dirty spark plug.
► Check electrode gap (A) and readjust if neces‐
sary – see "Specifications".
