18.2.1
Fine tuning with mowing head
The mowing lines must extend as far as the
blade on the deflector.
► Carry out the standard setting.
► Warm up the engine for about 1 minute at full
throttle, then return to idling speed.
► Turn the high speed screw (H) a 1/2 turn
counterclockwise.
► Open the throttle wide.
18.2.2
At high altitude
► Turn the high speed screw (H) clockwise
(leaner) until there is no further noticeable
increase in engine speed.
► Turn the high speed screw (H) 1/8 turn coun‐
terclockwise.
18.2.3
At sea level
► Turn the high speed screw (H) counterclock‐
wise (richer) until there is no further noticeable
increase in engine speed.
It is possible that maximum engine speed may
be reached with the standard setting.
18.2.4
Fine tuning with metal cutting attach‐
ment
NOTICE
This adjustment may only be performed by
trained personnel with the aid of a tachometer.
STIHL recommends a STIHL servicing dealer.
► Carry out the standard setting.
► Warm up the engine for about 1 minute at full
throttle, then return to idling speed.
► Turn the high speed screw (H) a 1/2 turn
counterclockwise.
► Open the throttle wide and turn the high speed
screw (H) slowly clockwise until the maximum
permissible engine speed of 12,500 rpm is
reached.
NOTICE
Turning the high speed screw any further clock‐
wise makes the fuel-air mixture too lean – risk of
engine damage.
If maximum engine speed and full power cannot
be achieved, ask your servicing dealer for assis‐
tance. STIHL recommends a STIHL servicing
dealer.

18.3.2
Cutting attachment rotates when
engine is idling
► Turn the idle speed screw (LA) counterclock‐
wise until the cutting attachment stops moving

WARNING
If the cutting attachment continues to run when
the engine is idling, have your machine checked
and repaired by your servicing dealer.
18.3.3
Erratic idling behavior, poor accelera‐
tion, engine stops even though setting
of LA‑screw has been corrected
Idle setting is too lean:
► Carry out standard setting on low speed
screw (L).
► Turn the low speed screw (L) counterclock‐
