Removing and Installing a Fan Assembly

If a fan fails, the fan assembly should be replaced at the earliest opportunity. Each matrix
has a number of fans:
NOTES:
Remove and replace a fan module as follows:

FOX3 Matrix 24x has 2 fans
FOX3 Matrix 40x has 4 fans
FOX3 Matrix 80x has 3 fans
The fan modules are hot-swappable. They can be removed or installed without
powering down the switcher.
The diagram shows the 40x frame, which is similar in function to all matrix frames.
Rotate the top and bottom captive panel screws to completely loosen the screws
(see figure 40).

Fan Assembly Replacement
Gently pull on the captive panel screws to loosen the fan from the backplane.
Slide the fan asemby out of the chassis.
Align the flanges on the replacement fan assembly with the top and bottom fan guides
(see figure 40).
Gently slide the replacement fan assemby into the enclosure until the fan meets
resistance.
Gently seat the replacement fan assemby into the backplane.
Use a screwdriver to tighten the top and bottom captive panel screws to secure the
replacement fan assemby in place.
