Syste m Ex a m ple s
There a re ma ny w a ys to incorpora te the AN 1 x into
a simple or ex pa nded music system. Follow ing a re
a few of the most common ex a mples.
The AN 1 x By I tse lf
At the simplest level, all yo u need to do is co nnect
stereo headpho nes to the [PHO N ES] jack lo cated o n
the rear panel, and yo u' re ready to g o . T o use the
AN 1 x as a stand-alo ne perfo rmance instrument, simply
co nnect it to amplified speakers and o ptio nal FC Fo o t
Co ntro ller and Fo o tswitch pedals as sho wn in the
diag ram at rig ht.
Setting Up Your AN 1 x
The AN 1 x Co ntro l Synthesizer is an ideal stand-alo ne perfo rmance-
based electro nic musical instrument as well as a po werful co mpo nent
in an expanded MIDI music system. Fo llo wing are instructio ns fo r
pro per setup o f the AN 1 x and co nnectio n to external devices.
1 . After ca refully ta k ing your new AN 1 x out of
the box , pla ce it on a k eyboa rd sta nd or on
top of a sturdy ta ble or desk .
2 . N ex t, connect the supplied Ya ma ha PA-3 B (or
equiva lent) Ada ptor to the AN 1 x 's [DC IN ]
connector loca ted on the rea r pa nel. Then
connect the a da ptor to the nea rest electrica l
outlet.
3 . Before sw itching on the pow er, connect a ny
periphera l devices such a s a m plified spea k ers,
FC Foot Controller or Footsw itch peda ls, or
ex terna l M IDI instrum ents.
Do not attempt to use an AC adaptor other than the PA-3 B ( or equivalent) . Use of an
incompatible adaptor may result in irreparable damage to the AN1 x, and could even pose a
serious shock hazard.
Always be sure to disconnect the power adaptor from the electrical outlet when the AN1 x is
not in use.

To avoid possible damage to the speakers or other connected electronic devices, before switching on the
power of any device, make sure the AN1x's [ VOLUME] level and the volume levels of the connected
equipment are set to minimum positions.
The AN 1 x In A M IDI Syste m
It's easy to create a simple but po werful MIDI music
system with o nly a few basic co mpo nents. The
illustratio n belo w sho ws ho w to co nnect the AN 1 x to a
Yamaha Q Y7 0 0 Music Sequencer.
MIDI OUT
Yo u can have the AN 1 x's T empo setting co ntro l the
external sequencer's clo ck, o r the sequencer's clo ck
co ntro l the speed o f the AN 1 x's Arpeg g iato r o r Step
Sequencer.

details about assigning MIDI channels and other settings for the external sequencer or other
devices which may be connected, consult the owner's manual for each. For more
information about MIDI, see the APPENDIX, page 109.
