Here are a few pointers to help you get started.
Keys
You will get a set of keys to your unit's lock. Do not change, alter, or add door locks without
permission. Getting locked out can be costly. See your lease for instructions on what to do.
Set up your Electric Service
Your default electric supplier is National Grid. Telephone: 1-800-322-3223 for service in English &
Española.
WARNING:
Beware of signing electricity supply contracts with any other company. They may offer a
sweet deal but read the fine print! Once the original contract expires, your rates may go up a lot.
Fuel Assistance: To apply for Fuel Assistance, visit

It may take several hours to complete the application process, but if you qualify, you could get
hundreds of dollars in fuel assistance this winter and save hundreds more on your electric bill
for the whole year.
Set up your Internet/Cable service
If you are interested in getting a cable or internet service, Northampton has two main wired providers.

Set up automatic rent payment
If you wish to pay rent by direct debit, go to asterfields.org/residents to print the "Recurring Payment
Authorization Form." Fill it out and attach a voided check, and mail to KPM. Please continue to pay
your rent with a check or money order until you receive confirmation from KPM that your account is set
up for direct debit.

All
resident forms, as well as information covering a variety of thing related to resident living,
(including parking, pets, and recycling information), can be found at asterfields.org/residents.
Lease
Your lease or rental agreement is a legally binding contract, so keep it accessible and with your other
important papers--we recommend keeping it in this binder!
Section 14 ("Resident Will") and Section 15 ("Resident Will Not"). We will refer to your lease multiple
times in these pages.
Meet and greet
Please try to meet your neighbors. You never know when you will need to borrow an egg or whether
you may have an emergency.
