► Pull the starter grip quickly and allow the starter rope to

► If the Master Control Lever was set to position
down the throttle trigger lockout (1) and blip the throttle
trigger (2). The Master Control Lever will move to the run
position
and the engine will settle down to idle speed.
► Disengage the chain brake, @ 12.2.
Your chain saw is ready for operation.
► If the saw chain rotates when the engine is idling, shut off
the engine, engage the chain brake and have the chain
saw inspected by an authorized STIHL servicing dealer
before further use.
NOTICE
Accelerating the engine while the chain brake is engaged or
the chain is otherwise blocked (i.e., not able to turn)
increases the load and will cause the clutch to slip
continuously. This may occur if the throttle is depressed for
more than a few seconds when the chain is pinched in the
cut or the chain brake is engaged. To reduce the risk of
overheating and damage to important components (e. g.
clutch, polymer housing components), always disengage the
chain brake before accelerating engine and before starting
cutting work. The only exception to this rule is when you
check operation of the chain brake, @ 16.1.

15.1 Shutting Off the Engine
WARNING
The saw chain will continue to rotate for a short while after
the throttle trigger is released. To avoid serious or fatal
injury, avoid contact with the moving chain. To reduce the
risk of personal injury from unintended activation or
unauthorized use, shut off the engine, ensure the chain has
stopped and engage the chain brake before walking with the
saw or setting it down.
