Trouble shooting

Eliminating process errors
Only two general groups of errors are shown in the display. "Process error" and "device error".
Device errors describe hardware errors. Two main groups of errors
Measuring path disturbed
Flow measurement unreliable
Error/Symptoms
Display shows 0 flow.
A flashing "F" appears in the
display continuously/occa-
sionally.
Device status (menu 2.1):
"Measurement path disturbed"
Gain (menus 6.5.1.X) for the
active tracks > 250
Time-of-flight (menu 6.5.5.X
and 6.5.6.X) for the active
tracks is not stable
Error counters (menu 6.5.4.X)
not equal to 0
Flow not stable. A flashing
"F" appears in the display
continuously/occasionally.
Device status (menu 2.1):
"Unreliable flow value"
Gain (menus 6.5.1.X) for the
active tracks < 250 but not
stable
Time-of-flight (menu 6.5.5.X
and 6.5.6.X) for the active
tracks is not stable
Error counters (menu 6.5.4.X) Ultrasonic echoes
not equal to 0

Diagnosis
Pipe not filled with liquid
Cable broken/detached
Permanent disturbance inside
the pipe
Air bubbles or particles of any
kind disturbing the measurement
Cable partly connected

The medium in the measuring line is not permeable to
sound, this applies both when the pipe is filled with gas or
is empty. The measured value on the display is set to zero.
Cable is broken or detached.
The measured values have a very high dispersion so that
errors in the measuring evaluation or disturbances in the
flow due to cavitation, twist or inhomogenity such as bubbles
or foreign bodies.
Measured values are displayed but an "F" flashes in the
right hand corner of the display.

Solution/Comment
Make sure that the pipe is filled or
at least the sound path is covered
with liquid.
Make sure that the transducer
cable is connected in the terminal
housing of the transmitter.
Make sure that the screen and
center pin is connected inside the
transducer top.
If possible, make sure that the
transducer window inside the
pipe is not damaged or that no
permanent disturbance is present.
Make sure that the pipe line is
ventilated and that the concentra-
tion of particles is limited to a level
at which normal measurement with
the meter is possible.
Make sure that the transducer
cables are connected in the
transmitter and in the sensors
(SONO 3200 or SONO 3300).
Check the connection of the
cable screening.
Make sure that the screen and
center pin is connected inside
the transducer top.
Make sure that the entered track
lengths correspond with the
measurement report.
