Orange segments: obstacles at a distance

System limits
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC does not necessa‐
rily take into account the following obstacles:
Obstacles below the detection range, e.g.
R
persons, animals or objects.
Obstacles above the detection range, e.g.
R
overhanging loads, overhangs or loading
ramps of trucks.
The sensors must be free of dirt, ice and slush.
Otherwise, they may not function correctly.
Clean the sensors regularly, especially after driv‐
ing off-road, taking care not to scratch or dam‐
age them.
Vehicles with trailer hitch: Parking Assist
PARKTRONIC is deactivated for the rear zone
when you establish an electrical connection
between your vehicle and a trailer.
Problems with Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
Example: vehicles with surround view camera

light up red and the é symbol appears in
the multifunction display, Parking Assist
PARKTRONIC may have been deactivated due to
signal interference. Start the vehicle again and
check if Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is working
at a different location.

If a warning tone also sounds for approximately
two seconds every time the vehicle is started, it
may be due to one of the following causes:
The sensors are dirty: clean the sensors

and observe the notes on care of vehicle
parts (
page 337).

Parking Assist PARKTRONIC has been

deactivated due to a malfunction: restart
the vehicle. If the problem persists, consult a
qualified specialist workshop.
Function of the passive side impact protec‐
tion
Passive side impact protection is an additional
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC function which
warns the driver about obstacles at the side of
the vehicle. A warning is issued when obstacles
are detected between the front and rear detec‐
tion range. In order for an object to be detected,
the sensors in the front and rear bumper must
detect the object while you are driving past it.
During the parking procedure or maneuvering,
objects are detected as the vehicle drives past.
If you steer in the direction of a detected obsta‐
cle and there is a risk of a lateral collision, a
