11 Using the Pole Pruner

► Release the trigger and Ergo lever.
► If the release slide, trigger or the Ergo lever is stiff or does
not spring back to the idle position: Do not use the pole
pruner and contact your STIHL dealer for assistance.
The release slide, trigger or the Ergo lever is defective.
Switching on the Pole Pruner
► Insert battery.
► Push the release slide towards the saw chain and hold in
place.
► Press and hold the trigger.
The saw chain runs.
► If 3 LEDs flash red: Remove the battery and consult a
STIHL dealer.
There is a malfunction in the pole pruner.
► Release the trigger.
The saw chain stops running after about 1 second.
► If the saw chain continues to run after about 1 second:
Remove the battery and contact your STIHL dealer for
assistance.
The pole pruner has a malfunction.

10.5 Checking Chain Lubrication

► Fit the battery.
► Hold the guide bar over a light surface.
► Switch on the pole pruner.
Chain oil is thrown off the chain and is visible on the light
surface. Chain lubrication is operating properly.
If no chain oil can be seen:
► Fill up with chain oil.
► Check chain lubrication again.
► If chain oil is still not visible on the light surface: Do not
use your pole pruner and contact your STIHL servicing
dealer for assistance. Chain lubrication is defective.

10.6 Testing the Battery

► Press button on battery.
The LEDs glow or flash.

► If the LEDs do not glow or flash: Do not use the battery
and contact your STIHL servicing dealer.
There is a malfunction in the battery.
11 Using the Pole Pruner

11.1 Adjusting the shaft length (HTA 86)

The shaft can be adjusted to different lengths to suit the
application as well as the user's height and reach.
► Switch off the pole pruner and remove the battery.
► Turn the clamp nut (1) a half-rotation towards
► Adjust the shaft (2) to the required length.
► Turn the clamp nut (1) in direction
► Check that the shaft (2) cannot be shifted any more ant
that the clamp nut (1) is twisted tight in direction
as it will go.
The shaft length is properly adjusted if the shaft (2) cannot
be pushed in or pulled out and the clamping unit is twisted
tight in direction of
