    E L C O M E ® Your new Visioneer scanner can quickly scan stacks of single-sided or double-sided pages and place their electronic images on your computer. ’ S IN THE Before proceeding, check the contents of the box.     C A N N E R E T U P Remove the scanner from its protective foam and plastic bag. Remove any shipping tape from the scanner as indicated in the following illustration(s). The above illustrations are for example purposes only. Your scanner’s packaging may vary slightly. Lift the ADF cover up from the scanner.

Your scanner’s packaging may vary slightly. ONNECT THE OWER Note: Only use the power supply included with your scanner. Connecting any other type of power supply may damage your scanner, and will void its warranty.

    Click the Yes button to allow the installation to proceed. NSTALL THE OFTWARE AND ONNECT THE CANNER Start Microsoft Windows and make sure that no other applications are running. Go to www.visioneer.com/install. Launch the installer once the download is complete. ’ CANNER UIDE...
  • Page 14 Click Proceed. The Select Language window opens. Click the drop-down menu arrow and select the language to use. Click Make sure the boxes for Scanner Driver and Visioneer OneTouch are selected, as well as any other applications you want to install.

    ® NSTALLATION ISIONEER ATRIOT 10. If a version of the software is already installed on the system, the option will be greyed out. However, if there is a newer version available, it will be possible to download and install. 11. The software will have to first be downloaded by clicking Download. The total size of the download is shown at the bottom.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT NSTALLATION Stop when you see the “Complete the installation by connecting your hardware” window. Do not click OK yet. Leave the window open and proceed to the next section. Note: If you do not see this on-screen diagram for connecting the scanner, stop and follow the instructions below. Connect the USB Cable and Turn on the Power If you did not connect the scanner earlier, proceed with the instructions below.
  • Page 17 ® NSTALLATION ISIONEER ATRIOT Turn on the scanner power. The status light comes on and flashes indicating that the scanner is receiving power. Your computer recognizes that a scanner has been plugged into the USB port and automatically loads the appropriate software to run the scanner.

    OneTouch installed. Select the option in the installation window only if you want the existing profiles On the Visioneer License Agreement window, read the license agreement. If you accept the terms, select I Agree then click Next.

    ® NSTALLATION ISIONEER ATRIOT Click Close on the Installation Complete window to close and exit the software installer. After OneTouch is installed, a splash screen will be displayed while it initializes and searches for installed scanners. Please wait for this screen to disappear before attempting to use OneTouch. Note: If you selected other software to install, the installation for that software will automatically start after you click Close on the Installation Complete window.

  • Page 27 ® OADING OCUMENTS TO ISIONEER ATRIOT Adjust the paper guides to hold your multi-page document. Load the stack of documents facing up with the top of the pages pointing into the feeder. Verify that the paper guides are aligned with the edges of the stack. To scan A3-sized paper, pull out the extension of the input tray as shown.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT OADING OCUMENTS TO CANNING LASTIC ARDS OR HICK APER When you need to scan plastic cards or thick paper, open the rear cover by pressing the two locking buttons at the back as illustrated. This way, paper can be fed and protected smoothly through the "straight paper path" and ejected at the rear tray.

    A I N T E N A N C E This section contains information about maintenance, troubleshooting, uninstalling, scanner specifications, and spare parts. AFETY RECAUTIONS When servicing the scanner you should take the following precautions to ensure your safety and prevent damage to the scanner.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE ARDWARE ROPERTIES You can use the scanner’s properties page to keep track of scanner maintenance, change some of the hardware options, configure the scanner interface behavior, and adjust application options that may be available for your scanner.
  • Page 33 ® AINTENANCE ISIONEER ATRIOT Use the up and down arrows to select the Scanner Details option. Use the Duplex button to confirm your selection. You can now view the scanner details: model name, firmware version, serial number. To view software details, use the down arrow, as indicated on the LCD menu. The LCD will display: driver version, Acuity version number as well as One Touch version number.

    ® AINTENANCE ISIONEER ATRIOT LEARING APER If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder, a warning opens after a few moments. Pull the handle and open the ADF cover with a light force. Do not attempt to remove a jammed page with the scanner closed.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE Close the Automatic Document Feeder by pressing down on the center of the Automatic Document Feeder to return to its original position until it clicks into place. To reduce the number of paper jams, smooth and straighten the paper before scanning, adjust the guides to the paper size, and insert the paper evenly into the ADF.
  • Page 37 Preparation Roller cleaning papers can be purchased from our website at www.visioneer.com in the Parts & Accessories page for your scanner. When cleaning the inside of the scanner, you should clean all of the rollers, scanner glass and background plates at the same time.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE Open the ADF cover to open the scanner. Use the Duplex button to initiate roller rotation. Each time you press on the duplex button, the rollers will rotate slightly, allowing you to clean the rollers efficiently. The following illustration shows where the rollers are located in the scanner.

    ® AINTENANCE ISIONEER ATRIOT Open the ADF cover to open the scanner. The following illustration shows the location of the glass in the scanner. Use a soft cloth to wipe clean the glass. You can use a roller cleaning paper to clean the glass plates if there is any sticky residue on the surface.

    ® AINTENANCE ISIONEER ATRIOT EPLACING THE OLLERS When replacing the rollers described in this section, you should replace all of the rollers at the same time. Do not replace just one roller and not the other. When you are finished replacing the roller, reset the roller count as described on page 33.
  • Page 42 ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE Pull the handle to open the Automatic Document Feeder cover. Move the plastic tab to the right to unlock the pick-up roller and remove the pick-up roller. Discard the rollers, they cannot be repaired or reused. Take the new rollers out of their packaging.

  • Page 47 ® AINTENANCE ISIONEER ATRIOT Pinch the sides of the roller cover and pull it up to access the roller. Move the plastic tab up and then carefully bring the roller up and out of the scanner starting at the plastic tab end.

    ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE Slide the new roller onto the bar. Make sure the struts on the bar line up to the slots in the end of the roller. Insert the metal end of the roller into the slot in the scanner. Carefully lower the roller into the scanner. Make sure the groove on the right side of the roller is aligned so that it slides in place into the U-shape of the bracket.
  • Page 49 Did you select another image source in the scanning software? If you use multiple imaging devices with your computer, such as a camera, all-in-one printer, or another scanner, you may have selected another ® source for images. Make sure Visioneer Patriot P90 is selected as the scanner.
  • Page 50 ® ISIONEER ATRIOT AINTENANCE Problem: My computer keeps giving me out of hard drive space error messages. The minimum requirement of free hard drive space is for the installation of the scanner driver and basic, low resolution, scanning. High resolution scans result in files that can be over 1 gigabyte in size. Free up some space on your hard drive for the software to be able to save the scanned images.

    In all cases, you should turn off the scanner and check the scanner setup. Make sure the USB cable is plugged into the scanner and computer.
