6-5. FM-84 Board
The main functions of the FM-84 board are as follows:
. The circuit on the FM-84 board converts the digital video signal output from the SY-301 board into an
analog video signal that conforms to the TV format-based NTSC/PAL system.
. The circuit on the FM-84 board converts the signal input to a video encoder into an RGB signal by
double-speed scanning.
. The OSD adder displays the signal from a character generator on a video signal.
. The FPGA and RROM circuits are used as a digital interface to the IEEE1394 circuit LINKIC output
from DSP.
. LINK and PHY circuits for IEEE1394
. The H8 microcomputer (microcomputer) circuit controls IEEE1394 LINK and PHY circuits.
Moreover, an EVR D/A converter, which adjusts a video output signal, and various connectors are
mounted on the FM-84 board.

The schematic diagram of the FM-84 board is divided into five blocks and described in this manual. The
schematic diagram is here described in one-division units. Refer to "Section 10 Schematic Diagrams" for
the schematic diagram of the FM-84 board.
1. Video encoder and OSD indicator circuit (1/5 circuit)
IC403 is a video encoder that conforms to the NTSC/PAL system. A signal conforming to a TV signal is
obtained by inputting the signal based on an RGB double-speed scanning system to IC403.
IC401 is SDRAM of 16 MB. Like video encoder IC403, IC401 enables the signal conversion based on a
TV system and the display of a freeze still picture.
IC402 is SDRAM of 32 MB. At present, IC402 is not mounted on the FM-84 board. In future, IC402
will be mounted for change when SDRAM of 16 MB is stopped in production.
X401 and X402 perform a frequency oscillation of 4 fsc used in an NTSC/PAL system. The frequency is
adjusted by the voltage adjustment of variable capacitance diodes D401 and D402.
IC407 is an OSD character generator. IC407 has the internal fonts exclusively used for DXC-S500. An
on-screen display appears by inputting the character generator signal to IC403.
IC411 and IC405 are a 75 Z video driver. IC411 and IC405 drive a VBS signal and Y/C S-Video signal
and send them to the CN-2272 board via connector CN401.
2. Double-speed video scan converter (2/5 circuit)
The double-speed video scan converter can convert a YUV signal into a VGA double-speed signal and
analog RGB signal with image size of 640 x 480 at 1 Vp-p by inputting the digital video signal
(YUV4:2:2) output from DSP on the SY-301 board to IC514. The converted signal is sent to video
circuit IC403.
IC513 is a sync separator. IC513 extracts a VD signal from the VBS signal of DSP and uses it as the
Vsync signal of IC514.
