Before your computer runs out of battery power, save your data
and:
Suspend or shut down your computer.

charged one as outlined in "Changing batteries" on page 102.
Install a secondary battery module in the computer's
SelectBay.
Connect your computer to an AC power source.

Starting where you left off

With your Tecra 8100 computer, you have the opportunity to
temporarily suspend the operation of your system without having
to shutdown Windows. When you suspend the computer, it takes a
"snapshot" of the current state of your programs and data and
saves it. When you resume working on your computer, the
information is recalled, returning the computer to its previous
state. You may suspend your computer in one of the following
ways:
Click Start, Shut down, then Stand by.
Click Start, then Suspend.
These features store the current state of the computer,
including all your open files and programs, in memory until
you turn on the computer again. The computer uses power
supplied by the backup battery to store this information.
TECHNICAL NOTE: If the battery discharges fully (which will
happen if you leave the computer in Suspend/Standby mode
and unplugged for over eight hours), your information will
be lost. So, you should save all your work before you turn off
the power with Standby command enabled.
