according to the heavy current regulations. This also
applies when replacing an existing appliance which
was not provided with additional protection.
The purpose of the additional protection is to protect
the user from a hazardous electric shock in the
event of a fault.
In homes which were built after 1 April 1975, all
sockets in kitchens and potentially also in utility
rooms have additional protection.
In homes which were built before 1 April 1975,
additional protection is ensured if the socket, to
which the appliance is to be connected, is
safeguarded with a residual-current circuit-breaker.
In both cases the following applies:
In a socket for a three-pin plug, the wire with the
green/yellow insulation must be connected to the
earth terminal (identified by <-417-IEC-5019-a).
In a socket for a two-pin plug, a two-pin plug must be
used. The conductor with the green/yellow insulation
must be cut off as close as possible to the plug.
In all other cases you should have an approved
electrician check how best to provide the appliance
with additional protection.
The "Electrical Council" recommends that the
required protection be provided by a residual-current
circuit-breaker with an actuating nominal value of
0.03 amps.

The socket must also be freely accessible following
