22 Inspection and Maintenance
To lubricate the gearbox:

► Remove the screw plug (2).
► If no grease can be seen on the inside of the screw plug,
screw the tube (1) of STIHL gear lubricant into the filler
hole.
► Squeeze no more than 0.2 oz (5 g) of STIHL gear
lubricant into the gearbox.
► Remove the tube of STIHL gear lubricant.
► Insert the screw plug and tighten it down firmly.
NOTICE
Do not completely fill the gearbox with grease.

22.4 Replacing the Trimmer Line on an AutoCut 25-2

Mowing Head

WARNING
Use of wire or metal-reinforced line is not authorized and
could be extremely dangerous. Use only the cutting
attachments recommended in this manual, in combination
with the recommended deflector.
WARNING
A damaged or loose cutting attachment or mowing head may
vibrate, crack, break or come off the trimmer / brushcutter,
which may result in serious or fatal injury or property

damage. Make sure the mowing head and cutting
attachment are properly and securely tightened and in good
condition before starting work.
► Switch off the power tool, @ 15.2.
► Remove the connecting cord, @ 14.2.
► Remove the mowing head, @ 11.5.2.

► Press both tabs (1) and remove the cover (2).
► Press down on the spool (3), turn it clockwise to release
the spool and pull up to remove it.
► Remove the remaining trimmer line (4) and dispose of it.
► If you use trimmer line with a diameter of 0.095 in.
(2.4 mm), cut a 33 ft. m (10 m) length of nylon line from
the reel and then cut it in half, making two 16.5 ft. (5 m)
lengths.

► Insert the first 16.5 ft. (5 m) length of line into the
eyelet (5) nearest the notches (6) until it stops.
