Hot plug components

This chapter describes how to handle hot pluggable components and/or how to
modify your server hardware (e.g. installing/removing hot pluggable power
supply units or HDD modules).

Upgrades, updates and replacement of non-hot pluggable components
are described in the "Options Guide" or in the service supplement and
may only be performed by authorized specialist personnel.
The hot plug procedure increases the availability of system operation and
guarantees a high degree of data integrity and failsafe performance.

Hot-plug power supply units

With two hot pluggable power supply units, if a defect occurs in one power
supply unit, the other unit ensures that operation continues unimpaired. The
defective power supply unit can be replaced during operation (hot plugging).
