Starting and operating

. If the vehicle battery is discharged,
the steering cannot be unlocked.
Charge the battery.
. After the vehicle battery is dis-
charged or replaced, it may require
initialization of the steering lock sys-
tem to start the engine. In such a case,
initialize the steering lock.*
*Initialization of steering lock
Switch the power to "OFF". Open
and close the driver's door and then
wait for approximately 10 seconds.
When the steering is locked, the
initialization is completed.

Push-button ignition switch
When the push-button ignition switch is
pressed while depressing the clutch pedal
(MT models)/brake pedal (AT models), the
engine will start. The start procedure of
the engine is as follows.

MT models
1. Carry the access key, and sit in the
driver's seat.
2. Make sure that the parking brake is
engaged.
3. Make sure that the shift lever is in
neutral.
4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
5. Depress and hold the clutch pedal.
Check that the indicator on the push-
button ignition switch turns green.
6. Press the push-button ignition switch.
The pedals should be kept depressed until
the engine starts.
NOTE
. In case the engine does not start by
the normal engine start procedure,
release the clutch pedal and switch
the power to "Acc". Depress the clutch
pedal again and press the push-button
ignition switch for at least 15 seconds.
The engine may start. Only use this
engine start procedure in case of
emergency.
. For diesel engine models, the en-
gine will not start until the preheating
indicator light has turned off.
. For diesel engine models, you may
feel vibration during engine idling for
several tens of seconds. This vibration
is caused by the self-learning proce-

dure of the injector. This learning
procedure is necessary for optimum
engine performance. This does not
indicate a malfunction.

AT models
1. Carry the access key, and sit in the
driver's seat.
2. Make sure that the parking brake is
engaged.
3. Make sure that the select lever is in the
