ADJUST SENSITIVITY AND
SPEED
(988156, 57, 58, 59)
CAUTION: Avoid injury! Clear area
of all bystanders before performing
this service procedure.
See Figures 9, 10, 11 and 12.
1. Park unit safely. See PARKING on
page 19.
2. Start and run engine until it reaches
normal operating temperature.
3. Move unit to an open area for operation.
4. To adjust speed and sensitivity,
unsecure and relocate pins (A) to
desired positions listed below.
To increase speed and sensitivity,
move to the forward position (B) (0 – 7
mph).
To decrease speed and sensitivity,
move to the backward position (C) (0 –
5 mph).

ADJUSTING TRANSMISSION
NEUTRAL POSITION
(988156, 57, 58, 59)
1. Park unit safely. (See PARKING on
page 19.)
2. Raise drive wheels off the ground and
securely support the unit and block
caster wheels.
CAUTION: Avoid injury! Unit must
be safely supported on jack stands
before removing or installing
wheels. Do not use a hoist or floor
jack to support the unit.
3. Start and run the engine until it reaches
normal operating temperature.See
STARTING ENGINE on page 17.
4. Observe wheel movement as control
levers are moved forward and rearward.
The wheels should travel in the correct
direction as the levers are moved.
5. Move control levers (A) to neutral
position; the wheels should stop rotating.
See Figure 13.

6. If wheels continue to rotate, adjustment
is necessary.
7. Slightly loosen cap screw to allow
rotation of neutral return plate.
If wheel is rotating forward, rotate
neutral return plate counterclockwise
until wheel rotation stops.
If wheel is rotating in reverse, rotate
neutral return plate clockwise until
wheel rotation stops.
8. Tighten cap screw.
9. Recheck neutral. If wheels continue to
rotate, readjust.
10. With the engine running, operate control
levers to verify adjustment.
If engine will not crank after
adjustments are made, adjust neutral
switch. Shut off engine.
11. Lower unit to the ground.
