If the drive chain slack is excessive when
the rear axle is moved to the furthest limit
of adjustment, the drive chain is worn and
must be replaced.
5. Tighten the sleeve nut to:
44 N.m (4.5 kgf.m, 32 lbf.ft)
Tighten the rear axle nut:
54 N.m (5.5 kgf.m, 40 lbf.ft)
If the torque wrench is not used for this
installation, see your Honda dealer as soon
as possible to verify proper assembly.
6. Tighten the adjusting nuts lightly, then
tighten the lock nuts by holding the
adjusting nuts with a spanner.
7. Recheck drive chain slack.
8. Rear brake pedal freeplay is affected
when repositioning the rear wheel to
adjust drive chain slack. Check rear
brake pedal freeplay and adjust as
necessary (page 14).

Cleaning and Lubrication:
This vehicle is equipped with seal type chain
hence proper care needs to be taken during
its cleaning and lubrication.
When the drive chain becomes dirty, it should
be cleaned prior to lubrication.
1. With the engine OFF, remove the drive
chain cases (page 47).
2. For drive chain cleaning use Honda
recommended chain cleaner.
CAUTION
!
Do not use a steam cleaner, high
pressure cleaner, wire brush, volatile
solvent such as gasoline (petrol),
benzene and abrasive cleaner or a chain
cleaner NOT designed specially for Seal
(O-ring) chains to clean the drive chain.
3. Adjust the drive chain (page 48) and
rear brake pedal free play (page 14).
4. Install the drive chain cases (page 47).
Lubricate every 1,000 km (600 miles) or
sooner if chain appears dry.
