Default Serial Interface mode

The Serial module of the Nortel 3120 is factory-enabled to operate in V.35
mode. While operating in the default V.35 mode, you can complete all
Secure Router 3120 configuration without rebooting.

Upgrading Secure Router Software

The Nortel command line interface (CLI) provides commands that allow
you to upgrade the SR3120 with new software. Every Secure Router is
furnished with a software image file (.Z) and a boot image file (.bin). Using
the TFTP protocol, the latest versions of these files can be loaded onto a
Nortel router from any accessible TFTP server.
A software upgrade consists of two files: software image (.Z) and boot
image (.bin) The software image (.Z) file is the operating Secure Router for
the Secure Router; the boot image (.bin) file contains the downloadable
boot images.
Before Downloading the software image (.Z) File
If you must issue the file/download command, do so only when the source
of the download file is currently answering a ping command and there is no
immediate concern about unscheduled power outages. This situation is a

Note 1: Secure Routers do not support two simultaneous downloads.
