REM OVING THE CYLINDER HEAD
1. Rem ove:
• cylinder head bolts
• cylinder head nuts
NOTE:
Loosen each bolt and nut 1/2 of a turn at
a tim e, in stages and in a crisscross pat-
tern. After all of the bolts and nuts are
fully loosened, rem ove them .

CHECKING THE CYLINDER HEAD

1. Elim inate:
• com bustion cham ber carbon deposits
(w ith a rounded scraper)
NOTE:
Do not use a sharp instrum ent to avoid
dam aging or scratching:
• spark plug bore threads
• valve seats
2. Check:
• cylinder head
Dam age/scratches → Replace.
• cylinder head w ater jacket
M ineral deposits/rust → Elim inate.
3. M easure:
• cylinder head w arpage
Out of specification → Resurface the
cylinder head.
M ax. cylinder head w arpage
0.1 mm
a. Place a straightedge 1 and a thick-
ness gauge 2 across the cylinder
head.
b. M easure the w arpage.
c. If the lim ited is exceeded, resurface
the cylinder head as follow s.
