Remove and Replace the Front Fan

The front fan (1) can be replaced as an assembly (fan plus mounting bracket) or just the fan alone.
Refer to Figure 10-26.
Remove the Front Fan
1. Disconnect the fan cable from the System/Core I/O Board.
2. Loosen and remove two screws in the front of the chassis.
3. Remove the fan assembly from inside the cabinet.
4. Remove the retaining screws by backing the screws out half-way then remove the entire mounting
latch. You do not need to back out the screws all the way from the mounting latch.
Replace the Front Fan
NOTE
Air flow in the chassis is from front to back. When replacing a fan, be sure to install the
fan grill so that the arrow showing the air flow direction is on the left side of the fan
grill. Do not install the fan in backwards.
1. Position the fan on the fan mount bracket so the wires flow downward on the side of the mounting
bracket with the hook facing down.
2. Tighten the four screws that secure the fan to the mounting bracket.
3. Insert the hooks on the fan assembly bracket into two slots on the front of the chassis.
4. Insert and tighten the two screws that secure the front fan assembly to the chassis.
5. Connect the fan cable to the System/Core I/O Board.
