TOWING THE VEHICLE ON
FOUR WHEELS
Emergency Towing
WARNING: If your vehicle has a
steering wheel lock make sure the
ignition is in the accessory or on position
when being towed.
If your vehicle becomes inoperable without
access to a flatbed vehicle transport or
trailer, you can tow with all wheels on the
ground, known as flat towing, under the
following conditions:
Your vehicle is facing forward for
towing in a forward direction.
The transmission is in neutral (N). If
you cannot shift the transmission into
neutral (N), you may need to perform
the manual park release procedure.
See Automatic Transmission (page
17). Failing to do so may result in
damage to the transmission. Do not
use the Stay in Neutral Mode for
towing.
Maximum speed is 20 mph (32 km/h).
Maximum distance is 4 mi (6 km).
On public roads, only flat tow your vehicle
to get out of the way of danger or to
provide access for a flatbed trailer to load
the vehicle. For example, if your vehicle
becomes inoperable on a bridge or road
with no shoulder. Flat tow your vehicle the
least amount of distance at the lowest
speed possible until you reach a safe and
suitable area.
