4.0 Safety Information

Due to the high operating temperatures this appliance
n
should be located out of traffic and away from
furniture, draperies, etc. Maintain proper clearance to
combustible mantels and fireplace trim.
Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards
n
of high surface temperatures and should stay away to
avoid burns or clothing ignition.
Young children should be supervised while they are
n
in the same room as the appliance. Toddlers, young
children and others may be susceptible to accidental
contact burns. A physical barrier, such as a child
guard, is recommended to be used if there are at-risk
individuals in the house. To restrict access to a fireplace
or stove, install an adjustable safety gate to keep
toddlers, young children and other at-risk individuals
out of the room and away from hot surfaces.
An integrated safety screen is provided with this
n
appliance designed to reduce the risk of burns from the
hot viewing glass and must remain installed for the
protection of children and other at-risk individuals.
If the safety screen becomes damaged, the screen shall
n
be replaced only with the Jøtul Screen Barrier part
number 226317.
Any safety screen, glass panel, guard, or barrier
n
removed for servicing an appliance must be replaced
prior to operating the appliance.
Clothing or other flammable materials should not be
n
placed on or near the fireplace.
Never allow anyone to use the fireplace if they are
n
unfamiliar with its operation.
NEVER store or use gasoline or any other flammable
n
vapors or liquids in the vicinity of the fireplace.
Never burn any solid materials (wood, cardboard, paper,
n
coal, etc.) in this gas fireplace. Use with natural gas or
propane fuels ONLY.
Do not slam or strike the glass panel.
n
This appliance is NOT for use with aftermarket glass
n
doors. This appliance is approved for use only with the
surround panel options listed on page 4 of this manual.
Wear gloves and safety glasses while installing or
n
performing maintenance procedures on this appliance.
This fireplace insert is specifically designed for use
n
with 3" and 4" diameter Listed, flexible gas liners.

Electrical Hazards
n This appliance requires 120 VAC power
to operate the optional blower.
n Be aware of electrical wiring locations
when cutting holes in walls and ceilings
for termination.
n The blower must be electrically
grounded in accordance with local codes
or, in the absence of local codes, with the
current ANSI/NFPA 70, National Electrical
Code or CSA C22.1-Canadian Electrical
Code.
n The blower is supplied with a three-
prong (grounding) plug for protection
against shock hazard and should be
plugged directly into a properly grounded
three-prong receptacle.
DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE THE
GROUNDING PRONG FROM THE PLUG.
n Always disconnect the power supply
when performing any service on the
fireplace.
