464 Maintenance and care
Push the handle

of the bonnet catch
#
upwards and lift the bonnet by approximately
40 cm.
To close: lower the bonnet and let it fall from
#
a height of approximately 20 cm.
If the bonnet can still be lifted slightly, open
#
the bonnet again and close it with a little
more force until it engages correctly.
Engine oil
Checking the engine oil level using the oil
dipstick
& WARNING Danger of burns from hot
component parts in the engine compart‐
ment
Certain component parts in the engine com‐
partment may be very hot, e.g. the engine,
the radiator and parts of the exhaust system.
Let the engine cool down and only

touch the component parts described
below:
Plug-in hybrid: observe the notes in the Supple‐
ment. Otherwise, you may fail to recognise dan‐
gers.
Requirements:
the engine must have an oil dipstick. If not,
R
the engine oil level can be checked only with
the on-board computer (
page 465).
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstick may be
installed in the engine compartment in different
locations.
The waiting time before checking the oil level
when the engine is at normal operating tempera‐
ture is five minutes.
Park the vehicle on a level surface.

Pull oil dipstick

out and wipe off.
