Testing and setting ignition timing

Special tools, testers and aids required
♦ Vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 together
with cable V.A.G 1551/3
♦ Ignition tester V.A.G 1767 or V.A.G 1367
together with trigger clamp V.A.G 1367/8
Test conditions
l Coolant temperature at least 80 °C
l No fault stored in fault memory

Test procedure
K - Connect the ignition tester V.A.G 1767 or the
ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with the trigger
clamp V.A.G 1367/8.
- Connect the vehicle system tester V.A.G
1552 and select the control unit for engine
electronics with the „address word“ 01. The
engine should be idling for this step.

K Readout on display:
- Press the keys 0 and 4 for the function
„initiate basic setting“ and confirm the entry
with the key Q.
K Readout on display:
- Press the keys 0 and 1 for „display group
number 01“ and confirm the entry with the
key Q.
K Readout on display:
(1...4 = display fields)
