13.6. Process of the antenna adjustment
It recommends for adjusting the antenna by solar measurement when installed the radar in the
beginning to somewhere, and after maintain or repair the driving system of the antenna. Here explains
the process of adjusting the antenna using dedicated software.
Terms of use:
1) The weather of radar site area must be fine or sunny.
2) Cloud, rain, or any obstacle is blocking in between the radar and the sun.
1. Confirm the current position (Azimuth & Elevation) of the sun by Solar_position.exe. (Refer the 13.3)
2. Setup Sector PPI or Sector RHI. Recommend to use Sector PPI first if the sun is closed to
culmination altitude.
Go to a) for using Sector PPI.
Go to b) for using Sector RHI.
a) The instruction of measuring the azimuth of the sun by Sector
PPI. Setup Sector PPI scan from scan setting as follows:
AZ rotation speed: 0.5
AZ start angle
AZ end angle
EL angle 0
EL angel 1
b) The instruction of measuring the azimuth of the sun by Sector
RHI. Setup Sector RHI scan from scan setting as follows:
EL rotation speed : 0.5
AZ start angle
AZ end angle
AZ step angle
EL start angle
EL end angle
3. Start observation by clicking [TX] after setting.
4. Enter [Antenna_position_analysis.exe] in to observe data when finished observation.
- Refer the 14.4 for instruction.
- If it is hard to get the solar radiation spectrum, check the sun is blocking by the cloud, the current
position of the sun, and scan setting.
5. Enter the differential value between the antenna and the sun on
[AZ offset to north] at [Advanced Setting] in RainMap after
getting it.
6. Repeat processing from 1 to 4.
Repeat processing [a Sector PPI] if it is completed at the
process of 2, Change the scan angle because of the sun
position has been moved.
7. Check that differential value revised after the process of 6. Repeat the same process if it did not
revised.
8. Next, use the other scan method to do the process [1] to [7].
The process 2 for instance, it has to work on [b) Sector RHI] if [a) Sector PPI] is done.
9. Confirm the scan difference on the process of 2 again at last when azimuth and elevation adjustment
is completed.
: The current azimuth of the sun -15 deg.
: The current azimuth of the sun +15 deg.
: The current elevation of the sun ±1 deg.
(Predict the elevation of 1 minute after
the sun moved)
: Same as EL angle 0.
: The current azimuth of the sun ±1 deg.
(Predict the azimuth of 1 minute after the
sun moved)
: Same as AZ start angle
: 2.00
: The current elevation of the sun -15 deg.
Note: Minimum elevation must be more than 25 deg. (Difficulty of low elevation
measurement)
: The current elevation of the sun +15 deg.
